| Training is usually on a one to one basis with trainers giving their time free of charge. As we are a club, self-reliance is the order of the day. All activities are organised by the members themselves. You are trained by Nationally Qualified Instructors at your own pace. | | You must pay an annual subscription to the Branch (Billericay is £100 Sterling) and to BSAC (£43 Sterling). When you first join BSAC to train, the "Ocean Diver" training pack (£30 Sterling) includes the excellent 'Diving Manual', student workbook and Qualification book. For newcomers we charge a one off training fee of £50 (Sterling) which covers all your training as long as you remain a branch member. For those Sports Divers who join our branch or Certified Divers "crossing over" from PADI, the training fee is reduced to £25 (Sterling). Dive leaders and Advanced divers are not charged for in-club training. | | All BSAC divers receive "Dive" a monthly magazine, free of charge, and the fee also includes comprehensive third-party insurance. |
| Our training team currently comprises 6 nationally qualified instructors and 13 assistant instructors. Using the regularly updated BSAC training programme, they will progressively guide you through step by step instruction towards your qualifications. Having obtained a medical stating that you are fit enough to dive, your training commences with "Ocean Diver" theory lessons and practical pool sessions. |
| | After completing the theory and practical assessments at Mayflower School Swimming Pool you will be ready for your first open water dive. This takes place in a sheltered site, either in a flooded quarry or at a shallow sea site. | | More practical open water lessons then follow at progressively deeper depths and sites which then leads to the award of the "Sport Diver" qualification. | | Having built up a foundation of open water skills, the training then concentrates on the responsibility of leading dives culminating in the award of the "Dive Leader" grade.Development of diving skills and training in related skills such as boat handling, navigation chart work etc. should eventually complete the dive training and result in the qualification of "Advanced Diver". | | The training is designed to promote self-confidence and self-reliance at each level whilst sharing the experience with others in a social club environment. Safety is the key word throughout training and all diving activities. Diving is fun and exhilarating. Safe and competent diver training ensures this. |
