We are branch number 1620 of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), which is the governing body for underwater sport in the UK and has more than 43,000 members. When our Branch was formed in 1979 with just 12 keen divers, branch number 1620 was chosen in recognition of the Mayflower. Our emblem is a slightly enhanced version of the Mayflower symbol.
We meet at the Mayflower School Swimming Pool in Billericay, Essex every Friday evening at 9pm for training and diving-related recreation.
Diving is fun and exhilarating. Safe and competent diver training ensures this. You are trained by Nationally Qualified Instructors at your own pace. Training is usually on a one to one basis with trainers giving their time free of charge. Using the standard BSAC training programme, they will progressively guide you through step by step instruction towards your qualifications.
After completing the theory and practical training in the pool, you will be ready for your first open water dive in a sheltered site - either in inland waters or at a shallow sea site. With further experience you will be able to join club members on a variety of expeditions - Brighton, Weymouth, Plymouth, Red Sea, the Caribbean. The shipwrecks of Britain and the coral reefs of the world are waiting for you.

The Club organises single day dives and weekend trips throughout the UK diving season of April to October. Favoured locations include the English Channel, Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Northumbria (Farne Islands).
The trips are usually supported by between 8 and 20 divers and there is often the opportunity for non-diving partners to come along too.
The diving is partly conducted from the club's own boat and partly from larger chartered boats. We normally stay in modest B & B accommodation close to the sea.
Every year club members also organise several longer diving holidays. In British waters the favoured locations are Scapa Flow in Orkney (German WWI Battle Fleet), The West Coast of Scotland, The Scilly Isles, Isle of Man, Normandy (D-Day Wrecks), Ireland and the Channel Islands.
There is usually at least one Club trip each year to tropical waters and in recent years these have included The Red Sea, Cyprus, The Cayman Islands, Sipidan (Borneo), Truk Lagoon (Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean), Belize, the Galapagos Islands, Indonesia and Tobago.

These longer trips are sometimes Hotel based or may be on a live-aboard dive boat. We often try to include non-diving activities in the longer holidays.
